Study examines Austin LGBTQIA+ community, quality of life
October 19, 2021
A new report summarizing the ShoutOut Austin Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Quality of Life Study, has been released. The report summarizes research conducted by HMA Community Strategies (HMACS) which included town hall meetings, surveys, stakeholder interviews, and focus group responses from a diverse group of community members.
The report summarizes data captured, key themes and the community’s strengths and diversity around the seven Quality of Life domains which include Community and Social Connectedness, Economic Opportunity and Work, Educational Access and Opportunity, Health (physical, psychological/emotional, and sexual), Housing, Safety, and Social and Public Services/Benefits.
Conducted on behalf of the City of Austin’s Equity Office and the LGBTQ Quality of Life Advisory Commission, HMACS strongly recommends the report and recommendations be utilized by the commission and city council to engage across the domains and improve the lives of community members in the greater Austin area.
HMA Principals Charles Robbins, Iliana Gilman, Michelle Parra, Catherine Guerrero and Research Associate Ryan Maganini contributed to the report.
