Alex Smith is a skilled revenue cycle manager, leveraging technical proficiency and healthcare sector experience to improve operational efficiency and cash flow. He has experience optimizing workflows and electronic health records (EHR) systems as well as identifying and reporting process issues, trends and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Before joining Health Management Associates, Alex was Community Health Systems’ revenue cycle manager, providing oversight and technical expertise for collections and accounts receivable (AR) functions, processes and procedures. He supervised issue resolution functions, working with internal and external stakeholders to address payor issues, denials and payment discrepancies.

Prior to his work with Community Health Systems, Alex worked with Ensemble Health Partners as a revenue cycle manager for the AR, insurance follow-up and denial management teams. Alex oversaw the commercial and non-contracted teams for the organization’s largest client and worked onsite at a range of medical facilities, improving patient satisfaction through patient-facing experiences and instituting best practices at new facilities.

Internally, he optimized workflows to drive efficiency, including curating an automated workflow for eligibility-related denials, standardizing work queue reporting for trend analyses, and implementing automation for itemized bill submission. By redefining workflows and processes to meet annual service line agreements, Alex helped recover a $100 million cash deficit.

Alex earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Auburn University.
