Two new tools have been released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to help states and territories plan to transition back to regular operations after the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) ends.
These tools are also aimed at resolving pending Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Basic Health Program (BHP) eligibility and enrollment actions. These tools were announced in an official letter to CMS in December.
The tools, General Transition Planning Tool for Restoring Regular Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program Operations after Conclusion of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Public Health Emergency and Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Eligibility and Enrollment Pending Actions Resolution Planning Tool, will provide valuable insights when the COVID-19 situation reaches a point where states can begin to plan for post-COVID-19 operations.
HMA is one of several organizations which worked as a subcontractor under a Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) contract with IBM Watson Health which provided technical support to CMCS through the Medicaid Innovation Accelerator Program (IAP). HMA provided CMS with subject matter assistance on various projects, including supporting the development of tools for State Medicaid agencies.
